Maternity Sessions
What an incredible life experience to document!
Pregnancy is one of the most special and unique times in a women’s life and a maternity photoshoot is an amazing way to document this special time in life.
My goal as your photographer is to provide a very relaxing, empowering comfortable and beautiful experience for you to enjoy and celebrate yourself and this time in life.
Here are a few things to consider while planning your maternity session…
When is the best time to schedule a maternity session? When baby is between 30-36 weeks along is ideal, but timing can be different for everyone. If you are carrying multiples 27-31 weeks are recommend.
Should I get my Makeup/Hair/Nails done?- Maternity sessions are a good time to pamper yourself if you are looking for a good excuse ;) False eyelashes are very fun! If you are wanting to wear false eyelashes, I would recommend going for a more natural look there for daylight photography. Scheduling a mani-pedi treatment a day or two in advance is also a great idea. The for the day of your photoshoot, since you are all dressed up and feeling amazing, think about planning a date dinner or lunch with your partner after your session.
Things to avoid-
-Even though you might want to look a little more tan for your session, I would recommend avoiding fake/spray tanning, bronzers and shimmers.
-Try to avoid wearing tight underwear the day of your session and arrive in loose clothes to avoid body marks.
Wardrobe and outfit changes- In regards to what you should wear, this is 100% up to you! Pinterest is a great resource for inspiration, but I would encourage you to think about what kind of images you are wanting to create! Flowy dresses, fitted dresses, a pair of jean with a sweater are all going to produce different feels to your images. Neither is better or worse, just different. Either way, I would recommend wearing something that you are comfortable in and that makes you feel like you! It always shows in photos if you are not comfortable :) Accessories are always encouraged! Hats, scarves, jackets, sweaters, statement jewelry, etc.
-If you do want to wear jeans for a few “relaxed” style portraits, I would recommend brining a pair of your pre-pregnancy jeans to avoid the belly band.
-To add a little color to a few images during your session, colorful dresses or fabrics work great! Stay away from patterns as they can take away from the beauty of the portraits. Solids are best.
-Some pregnant mothers choose to embrace their changing bodies and capture tasteful artistic nude or semi nude portraits. Love these!
-For your partner, you want to wear something that is complimentary but not too matchy-matchy. And try to avoid large logos on clothing.
-In regards to outfit changes, if you have booked a full maternity session with me, there is definitely time for an outfit change. If you have booked a mini session, there will only be time for one outfit.
How far in advance should I schedule my session with you? The sooner the better, but sometime after you are 12 weeks should be enough time :) If you are late to the game, no worries either!
What are my location options? Local travel is included in your fee session. Local to me is anything within one hour of my home in Evergreen. So Denver-Boulder- Roxborough Park- Georgetown, etc.
Is shooting in a studio an option? YES! The studio fee will be added to the cost of your session. Average studio costs are $100-250 depending on the studio you choose. Here are a few of my favorites in the Denver area. Realm, Gas Money & Denver Photo Collective.
How long is a maternity session? A full session with me is 60-90 minutes long. A mini session is 30-40 minutes. Mini session have limited availability and are dependent on when I offer these as they are usually stacked sessions, meaning 3-4 minis are scheduled next to each other either at a studio or a previously chosen location.
Can my family/partner join? Absolutely!
When will I get to see my images? Your online gallery with your edited images will be delivered to you within 2-4 weeks of your session! You will receive 50 + images for a full session and 10-15 images for a mini.
